Is it possible to spoil a newborn?

…and how long are they considered to be newly born? my son just made 2 months yesterday and sometimes i feel like i spoil him because I’m always holding him. The thing is that he’s really gassy and has a hard time sleeping, so the only way i can get him to sleep continuously is if he’s in his swing but sometimes he won’t even sleep in his swing and the only way i can get him to sleep is if i hold him, so i sit up in bed and hold him. I hold him during his naps in the daytime too, i try to put him down after he falls asleep but he just wakes up. i’ve also tried everything (besides going to the doctors) to make him less gassy.
I’ve read books that says “there’s no such thing as spoiling a newborn….. babies that young cry for a reason”, and i’ve also read that if you don’t let a baby cry then they become spoiled. I feel that it’s more important that my son is comfortable and getting good sleep than me. Or am i just setting myself up to have an even harder time in the future?

You can NEVER spoil a baby. It is only natural for a mother to hold and cuddle and nurse her baby. It is extremely important for bonding and to give baby that sense of security and satisfaction that you will be there for him. I have always held my son despite everyone telling me not to and I co-slept with him and have never had any trouble with him. He is an extremely happy and confident boy and we always get comments on how quiet he is and how he is always smiling!!

When he was younger he actually got bad gas aswell and i would use gripe water, its a liquid herbal remedy that is sold in pharmacy’s for tummy pain in babies and has been used for centuries. Their are lots of other wind drops these days but i thought the most natural was better. Also giving him a dummy/pacifier for when he had bad pains helped alot, he would suck on it and it seemed to relax him as all the gas came out wih lots of farting!!!! Also laying him face down across my knees whilst rubbing his back would help, he loved it and would fall asleep with his arms and legs dangling down!!!

We had the problem too of him waking up if you put him down in his own bed so we just all slept together!! Although when they are in that really deep, limp stage with the mouth wide open, you should be able to move him then and he wont notice a thing!!

You cant spoil him, I think that when they are old enough to understand no and whats right from wrong thats when you start being stern but until then love him, hold him and enjoy it. One day he will grow up and push you away and then you will wish he was little again so you could snuggle him!!!!!

Can my 5 weeks old baby recognise her daddy and mummy?

Her daddy use to feed her everyday since she was born for 4 weeks. They have been together for days and nights. My husband just went to study this week. Is it possible that my baby will miss her daddy? He will be coming back tomorrow as it is weekend. Of course my mood changes from unhappy to happy. Can my baby feel when I am happy or unhappy? If yes, how will most babies react?

the baby can definitely recognise you and your voice she/can also sense your mood and may mimic it. (if you happy she is likely to be happy)
she will recognise her dad to but at this early age i doubt she will miss him the only thing she will miss is being fed

How much sleep doees your 10 week old baby get?

I feel like my daughter is always sleeping. She sleeps through the night from about 11 at night until about 7 in the morning. She will be up for about an hour after a bottle but then she goes back to sleep until she eats again, and this goes on all day. Is this normal?

My son has been this way since he was two weeks old and he is now 5 months. He sleeps for 10-12 hours a night and takes a nap after his morning bottle and again in the afternoon. My pediatrician said that this was fine based on the way he was going and that we were lucky to be getting so much rest. You can try keeping them interactive throughout the day to lessen the daytime naps and lengthen the night sleep. Check with the pediatrician and they will be able to tell you specifically if this is normal for your daughter. More than likely, she is fine. Good Luck!

How does getting enough sleep affect your height?

Im in my growing stage. My p.e teacher said that getting enough sleep will increase your height by a couple of inches.

If this is true how does getting 9-10 hours of sleep make you taller or less shorter?

It is during deep sleep that growth hormone does its job of thickening and lengthening your bones. So appropriate sleeping time (not the longer, the better) and correct sleeping posture is very important for your body to grow. Sleep is defined as a natural periodic state of rest for the mind and body, in which the eyes usually close and consciousness is completely or partially lost, so that there is a decrease in bodily movement and responsiveness to external stimuli.

During deep sleep, growth hormone produced by your pituitary gland is released into your blood stream and travel through your body and causes the thickening and lengthening of your bones. Therefore, you should achieve “deep level” sleep on a daily basis in order to coordinate your affords of exercises and proper diet. The following are some helpful tips on how to easily achieve deep level sleep.

Sleep in a comfortable and firm mattress.
Sleep in a room that is dark, quiet and fresh smelling.
Sleep with clean, soft, and comfortable clothes.
Keep your hands and feet warm. Scientific studies have shown that warm hands and feet will help induce REM (rapid eye movement) deep sleep. Cold hands and feet will keep you from deep sleep.
Drink a big glass of water before going to bed and when you wake up; this will help clean out your system.
Practice total relaxation and deep breathing for a few minutes before you go to bed.
Relax from head to toe. Close your eyes and relax every part of your body.
Maintain a habit of sleeping at the same time everyday, including weekends.
Sleep on your back with a flat pillow under your knees. This will align your spine properly and prevent any back aches caused by sleeping in a bent position.

Undoubtedly, the quality, quantity, and type of food we eat affect our height, growth, and health. We cannot emphasize enough how important your food intake is in determining how much growth you can possibly obtain. The types of food you eat will either improve or decrease your growth potential.
After careful consideration and research, the daily content of protein, carbohydrates, fats and water can be achieved if the following items were taken regularly.

Carrots Fish Liver
Egg Yolk Beef Red Meat
Milk Cheese Apples
Green Vegetables Potatoes Nuts
Yellow Vegetables Almonds Bananas
Peanuts Chicken Beans
Peas Salt 6-8 glasses of water per day

If you eat a lot of peanut butter, your height will not necessarily stop. Neither does masturbation stop height.
What might stop you from growing is smoking, drugs, alcohol, lack of sleep, stress, digestive problems, or lack of exercise.

Height Growth Products : The first approved natural product for height increase is Super-Growth www.super-growth.info www.super-growth.org with this product it is possible to gain extra height increase even after puberty. Super-Growth is the most powerful way to increase your height naturally and fast.

Can I use a different baby formula on holiday?

We’re going on holiday to California (from UK) with our 9 week old baby. We use SMA formula at home, both the powder and ready-made types. They don’t have SMA where we’re going, so would it be ok to use the local formula to save carrying loads of tins with us? Has anyone successfuly changed formula on holiday and had no upset tummy etc?

I would say no, my sister always had the SMA gold formula, and my mum switched her to SMA white for bedtime and it caused the milk to curdle in her stomach and she threw it up every time. Mixing formulas isnt really a good idea, i wouldnt recommend, but if you want to why not try your 9 week old on a little of the other formula (or different formula) and see how your baby handles it.. If he/she is fine, then try a little bit more, and see how he copes..
But i really wouldnt recommend, it could make your baby poorly!

How do you get better sleep with shift work?

I Live in an apartment and usually have traffic and construction noise outside. I wear my Ipod and use eye covers but still seem to have a restless sleep during daytime hours. What do you do to get better sleep during the day?

Hi, I use earplugs. It helps a lot. Go to your local drugstore. I also use 1 tylenol PM…No more IPOD, the music stimulates your brain and keeps you awake. Also try a water feature from walmart or target in your room. It might make a more peaceful sound. Make sure the temp is nice and cool and sleep the same time each day. Good Luck

My 4 week old baby wont stop crying?

So I took him to the doctor thinking it was acid reflux so he switched me to nutrigram or whatever. I tried that over the weekend and it seemed to help at first but now we are back to the same thing. He is driving me crazy. And no I’m not going to shake him so dont even try to start that. I’ve tried putting some baby cereal in his bottle.. It helps him sleep a little longer than his normal hour. I tried swaddling him. He doesnt cry constantly but almost. what the heck should i do? It’s usually during the day more than at night. What do you think the deal is? Colic? Any ideas on what I could try?

there are so many different options as to what might be the problem, starting with the formula, some babies don’t agree with the premixed liquid, some don’t agree with the powder you mix with water, some need a soy based. as a new mom with my first son i didn’t think you needed to fully heat formula, i only added hot tap water(which typically isn’t hot enough) without enough heat it doesn’t break down enough(like trying to mix sugar into cold tea, you think its mixed well but you feel the grit in your mouth) the point, it was making him constipated, gassy, very uncomfortable, very fussy also you mentioned cereal in the bottle, i know most people think that’s way early but i had to do the same, by 6 wks i was feeding him 6 oz of formula ceareal baby food cocktail 2-3 times a day(if you try this don’t use a food bottle with the sliding bottom !big mess!! just a bigger hole in the nipple, another option could be the type of bottle you use, does it curve upward, is there air flow holes (in the nipple or from the bottom) is it a wide-based nipple. with so many options these days it is a bit of a chore to find which works best, but you also have to worry about nipple confusion(not just for breast-fed babies with bottle supplements) using several different types of nipples can frustate the baby who needs the comfort of adjusting to one type of nipple, another potential issue could be laying him on his stomach, some think that’s too young, but both my boys that was their favorite place to be very early, the list of possibilities just go on and on, i would need more of a list of what you have tried to give you better options these were just my main problems being a first time mom
